Olafur Eliasson: The reflective corridor | Draft to stop the free fall, 2002

Der reflektierende Korridor, 2002

Waterfalls, rainbows, fog or light are the motifs with which Olafur Eliasson refers to nature in his works of art. What appears as nature or what reminds one of nature is only pretense. In the context of art and in its bare staging, it becomes something estranged: unnatural and artificial.

Eliasson's work for the Center of International Light Art allows every visitor to have a whole new experience with all of their senses at a 10 meters depth: an accessible walkway, flanked by a waterfall along the entire length on both sides. Illuminated with stroboscope light, the viewer gets the impression that the water comes to a halt and hangs still in the air. The parallel rhythm of water and stroboscope light creates a wall of sparkling beads of water.
